Focus Group

For my focus group i chose people who ranged between 13-18 as they were my targeted audience, of either female or male gender who enjoyed listening to indie music/or interested in things that revolved around that. I added images of my front cover, contents page and double page spread and asked what they liked and what they thought i could improve on. The questions i asked were-

• What are the strengths?
• Weaknesses?
• How appealing is it on a scale of 1-10?
• How could i improve?

Responses i recieved:

Front cover- I like the main image that has been used, it really represents that indie genre because of the guitar and the way she has presented herself i.e. clothing. The layout is typical which is good as you have followed the conventions. I think that there are not enough colours used, which is a draw back. To improve you could try combining a range of bright colours to see how that works. Appealingness 8.
Contents page- I like the two contrasting images of the artist and the dancing queen image, i think that that works really well because its different. Like the front cover maybe more colour could be added to appeal further. To improve try using various colours and other fonts to draw attention to the coverlines. Appealingness 8.
Double page spread- I love the layout and the way you have presented the images around the edge of the page and in those coloured boxes, that works really well. The weakness that i found would be that you could add more questions so there is more information and less images. To improve further add more questions and add a background colour. Appealingness 9.
